Install a Humidifier this Winter

With the leaves turning here, freezing cold weather won’t be far behind. And with it comes low humidity, dry air and a host of issues that that creates. Low humidity levels are an unfortunate fact of life during the winter, but as a homeowner, you don’t have to let it stay that way. A whole-house humidifier, installed by professional technicians, can be just the thing you need to relieve your discomfort. If you schedule an installation now, you should have it in place before the snows fall, and can take advantage of the benefits throughout the entire winter. Here’s why you should install a humidifier this winter.

Problems Caused by Low Humidity

When the relative humidity levels drop below 30% or so, the air becomes dry enough to make us uncomfortable. Low temperatures tend to mean dry air because the ambient moisture in the air coalesces into droplets when the temperature drops. (That’s why you see dew for in the early mornings, which are the coolest parts of the day.) As a result, moisture tends to get pulled off of your skin, leaving it feeling dry and cracked.  Static electricity becomes more prominent, resulting in painful shocks and jolts, and in extreme cases, your furnishings may be affected as well. Worst of all, by drying out your throat and mucous membrane, dry air leaves you and your family more vulnerable to colds and diseases: a serious concern during any winter month.

Humidifiers to the Rescue

A whole-house humidifier is a fairly simple way to combat those problems. The technician installs the humidifier in the ducts of your HVAC system. A wick soaks up water from a reservoir and then a fan blows over the wick: adding moisture to the air which can then be circulated throughout your home via the ducts. It works remarkably well and can improve your household comfort levels tremendously.
