3 Things to Check Before You Call in Heating Repair

A heating malfunction is nothing to take lightly here in the depths of winter. The temperatures can get chilly indeed in towns like Havertown and Springfield, PA, and when your heater fails to function, you need to get it fixed as quickly as possible. But before incurring a service charge for what may turn out to be a minor issues, it’s best to perform a few basic checks to see if the problem isn’t something that’s much easier to fix. Here are 3 things to check before you call in heating repair.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

The Circuit Breaker

Many heaters and furnaces use electrical components to run their system. Fan motors, for example, need electricity to run and most ignition systems uses electricity since it’s safer and more reliable than old fashioned pilot lights. In some cases, what appears to be a problem with the heater may just have been the circuit breakers tripping due to an overload or something similar. Check other components connected to the breaker as well as the breaker box itself before calling in a repair service.

The Thermostat

Thermostats are reliable devices and we rarely think of them when problems arise with our system. But it’s possible to accidentally shut the system off by brushing against the thermostat, and programming features may cause the system to turn on and off without your noticing it. Double check your thermostat every time when your heater system suddenly starts behaving oddly. It may just be mis-programmed, and the issue can be fixed with a simple tweak.

The Filter

Filters are designed to catch dust, dirt and other contaminants before being circulated through your system.  They need to be periodically cleaned or replace lest the build-up slow down the air flow and cause other problems with your heater. Check yours to see if this is the case, especially if the problem stems from low air flow.

If the issue isn’t something that can be fixed quickly, call in the pros at WM Henderson, Inc. to take care of it!
