Late Summer Problems with Your Air Conditioner

We’ve entered the final few weeks of summer, and here in Havertown and Springfield, PA, our air conditioning systems have been taxed to the limits to keep our homes and businesses cool. If you’ve kept your system well-maintained, it shouldn’t have any problems, but this is the most likely time of the year for trouble to develop, and when it does, you need to be able to spot the signs. Late summer problems with your air conditioner can be addressed effectively, but the sooner you can call in a technician, the better. Here’s a list of some of the more common issues.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

Low Refrigerant

Theoretically, refrigerant exists in a closed loop in your air conditioner and needs to stay at a set level prescribed by the make and model in order to do its job. When leaks develop, the balance necessary to cool the air is thrown off.  Frost forms on your evaporator coils and the system suffers from unnecessary stress and strain to keep running as it should. A trained technician can seal the leak and recharge the refrigerant.

Clogs

Clogs restrict the flow of air into your home, which means your system must expend more energy than it should to do its job. Clogs often form when air filters haven’t been cleaner or replaced, though they can form when debris builds up in the ducts and elsewhere. When they do, a technician can clear them out and restore air flow.

Short Cycling

Short cycling is a serious problem whereby your air conditioner turns on and off rapidly multiple times throughout the day. Since your system uses much more energy starting up and shutting down than it does simply running, it puts you on the hook for higher energy bills, as well as an increased risk of a serious breakdown.

When these late summer problems rear their ugly heads, you can count on WM Henderson Inc. to make is right!
