A number of key components in your household plumbing are usually buried underground: notably the water main, which bring potable water into your home, and the sewer line, which takes wastewater out. Summer is typically the time to address problems with those pipes, since the ground isn't frozen the way it is with our Springfield, PA  winters. Even so, such operations used to be a huge hassle, and expensive to boot. Problems with those pipes aren't all that different than problems with any other: corrosion, clogs, leaks and other issues that most plumbers can handle in standard pipes without difficulty. The trouble is reaching those underground pipes, which used to involve excavating them with heavy equipment. It once took days, it involved the expense of renting the equipment and paying extra workers, and in the end, you were left with a ruined yard requiring formal landscaping to fix.

Trenchless Technology Removes the Hassle

But that's a thing of the past now. With the advent of trenchless technology, no excessive digging is required, and the operation can usually be conducted in a single day or less. The method actually involves a series of high-end equipment combined with skilled training to get the job done. Two small holes are dug at either end of the presumed problem area, and a minute video camera is run down on a line to examine the problem. That allows the plumber to assess the damage and plan for a solution. That solution can then be run down one of the holes and fitted into place, whether it's an expandable lining to seal a leak or a blade to break up a broken pipe before a new one can be slid down and fitted into place. Regardless of the need, the problem is fixed, the hole can be covered up, and you're spared both the excessive cost and the damage to your yard.
