Get Your Generator Ready for Spring

A generator for your home is a year-round appliance, able to handle blackouts and power outages no matter what the time of year. Wayne, PA and the surrounding communities experience all manner of bad weather. We’re just coming out of the snowy season, but thunderstorms and heavy rain will be with us throughout the summer, and as good as our civic electrical grid is, Mother Nature still has the final word sometimes. That means that your generator needs to be ready to go on a moment’s notice. With the snows finally melting, now is a good time to get yours ready for spring. Here’s a few steps to do so.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

Schedule a Maintenance Session

You should perform a maintenance session on your generator at least once a year and twice if you can. It lets the technician correct any little problems such as loose wires and dusty components while keeping an eye out for potential repair issues. If he or she spots them, you can schedule a repair session to get it corrected before you need your generator to work for real.

Monitor Your Home’s Energy Consumption

Ideally, you should have your home audits for the power requirements of all electric appliances, so you know which ones can be plugged in and which should remain off while your generators is functioning. (The last thing you need is to overload your generator during a crisis.) If you’ve added new electronics in the last few months – perhaps over Christmas, with a new TV, refrigerator or the like – it’s probably a good idea to factor in the added power levels and make sure your generator can handle what you need it to.

Check Your Fuel

If you used your generator at all in the past six months, make sure you replenished the fuel you used.  It’s vital to have enough fuel on hand in a crisis to last for several days. Otherwise, your generator may conk out, forcing you to either sit in the dark or go out to get more: possibly in the midst of dangerous conditions.
