Signs of Common Plumbing Leaks

As you may have suspected, plumbing leaks remain the biggest reason to call a plumber, and we handle more leak calls each week than any other type of plumbing call. The good news is that gives you an expert on call who can swiftly handle the problem the right way. Unfortunately, you’ll need to spot the signs of a plumbing leak before you can call us in, and while water slowly spreading across your bathroom floor is a good sign, it’s no the only one. Here are some signs of common plumbing leaks that you should watch out for.

  • Puddles. Puddles can often form behind the toilet, in the back of the sink, or other places where you wouldn’t normally look.
  • Soft Spots. A leak in a hidden portion of the plumbing could soak into the material of your wall, creating a soft spot.
  • Lowered Water Pressure. A faucet or similar outlet that’s affected by a plumbing leak may release water at a lower pressure than you’re expecting. Depending on the nature of the leak, this may affect more than one outlet, especially if they’re all in the same room like the bathroom.
  • Sinking Water Levels. If the water in your toilet goes down, or you fill a sink basin to wash or shave only to find the water levels slowly dropping, you may have a leak or a crack in the basin or toilet.
  • Higher Bills. Pay close attention to your water bills every month. If they start to go up unexpectedly, especially if you haven’t used the water any more often than normal, it may be signs of a leak somewhere in the system.
  • Dripping Sounds. Sometimes, spotting a leak can be as easy as hearing the sounds of dripping water, or even running water, somewhere in the house with no plumbing outlet nearby.
