However, ductless split systems operate using forced air… the same way that furnaces and heat pump provide warmth to the inside of a home. However, furnaces and heat pump use ducts to circulate their warmed air. As the name implies, ductless split system have no ductwork. So where does the air come from and how does it heat a home?

We’ll address this question. If you’re intrigued and are thinking about having a ductless split system installed for your heating in Havertown, PA, contact the specialists at Wm. Henderson Plumbing & Heating Inc. and take advantage of our more than 36 years of experience.

How ductless splits work

In most ways, a ductless split system works the same as a standard heat pump: indoor and outdoor units (hence the “split”) contain the condensing and evaporating coils that allow for the exchange of heat. The outdoor unit absorbs heat, and the indoor unit releases it, where fans blow the heated air into the rooms.

The big difference with a ductless system is there are multiple indoor units. Instead of a single indoor unit acting as the condenser (and evaporator during cooling mode), there a multiple smaller blower units that contain coils where the heat is released. Separate refrigerant lines run from the outdoor unit to these individual blower units, which are mounted on the wall in different places in the house.

Ductless splits have two distinct advantages. First, they save space because they do not require the construction of ducts. Second, they allow a homeowner to control what parts of the house receive heating. Rooms that are not being used can have their blower unit turned down. This can result in significant heating savings.

Should you have a ductless split installed?

Although we think that ductless splits systems are a great way of heating a home (and cooling them as well, since heat pumps work as both heaters and air conditioners), they won’t work for every house. They are most appropriate for new construction where you want to bypass ductwork. Before you make a choice about how to get the best heating in Havertown, PA, call up specialists. Wm.
