3 Considerations When Buying a New Air Conditioner

Here in Bryn Mawr, PA, residents have already experienced some of the heat and humidity in store for us this summer, and it’s only going to get worse. If you’re thinking about installing a new air conditioner, now is the time to do it, before the temperatures get even worse. That way, you can enjoy the benefits that a new system provides all summer, without having to worry about your new system either breaking down or costing you an arm and a leg in inefficient service. A good technician can help you find the right system for your home and install it with pride. But before you start, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when searching for a quality air conditioning system. We’ve laid out three of the most important below.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

1. Sizing

By “sizing,” we don’t mean the physical size of the air conditioner, although obviously it will need to fit into the space currently occupied by your old one. Sizing in this case refers to the system’s power levels, which should be neither too small (in which case it won’t be able to do the job) or too large (in which case it will cycle on and off too often and increase wear and tear on your system). A technician should examine your home to size your system properly.

2. Efficiency

Efficiency isn’t the same as size, since a smaller system can be more efficient than a larger one. It refers to the amount of energy the system consumes to produce its cool air, and is measured in a SEER rating, which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Once you’ve sized your air conditioner, look for the highest SEER rating you can afford in that size.

3. Extras

Extras are things like new thermostats to replace your old ones, dehumidifiers, or zone control systems… all of which can help your new air conditioner perform more effectively.
